FAQs
What qualifies you as a death doula?
Aside from the personal experience of caring for my own dying family, I received my training from IAP College 6 week certificate Death Doula Course. I am a member of NEDA which is the National End-of-Life alliance that requires passing a proficiency exam.
will a Death Doula just sit with me? Maybe read to me?
Yes. Many times your family members may be uncomfortable with death and dying and may spend much of their time staying busy. Death Doula’s are happy to sit with you wether you want conversation, someone to just listen to your feelings and fears, read your favorite book to you, just sitting in silence with you or whatever gives you peace. Have you even been in a situation that was so deep no words were needed? You both understand the situation and it’s comforting just knowing you’re not here alone. No one is trying to avoid what is happening, but you are there together knowing someone understands and is there for you. That’s often times the best medicine and exactly what you need
